Presidential candidate Farid Zahran held a press conference on Thursday evening in which he announced the pillars of his political programme. According to what was announced at the conference, Zahran’s electoral programme includes a set of immediate decisions he will take if he wins the presidency, the first of which is “working on an industrial, agricultural, service, social and cultural project”. The programme states that Zahran will form a new government headed by a figure with a strong economic and political background.<\/p>\n
He pointed to activating the Supreme Council for Digital Transformation, digitising government services, setting an urgent plan to complete the digitisation of all services and working to remove all obstacles to achieving this goal, along with adopting the principle of transparency and access to information, calling for an Arab summit to adopt just solutions to the cause of the Palestinian people, supporting the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state, and building regional integration by activating all Arab, regional and international frameworks.<\/p>\n
In a statement to Zawia3, in response to a question about the role of current President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in the Palestinian cause and the war on Gaza, Zahran said that the President’s position is good and the state is also working with high efficiency on the Palestinian file and with regard to national security, and he praised the efforts made by the current authority to bring aid into the Gaza Strip, noting that the President’s categorical rejection of the presence of NATO forces in Gaza is a position that must be respected and appreciated.<\/p>\n
A number of political figures attended the electoral conference, most prominently Anwar Sadat, head of the Reform and Development Party, who in his speech thanked presidential candidate Farid Zahran and his election campaign, affirming that the working group within Farid Zahran’s campaign is making a great effort.<\/p>\n
Sadat said in statements that the presidential election is taking place in extremely difficult circumstances because of what is happening in Gaza, which has become the main preoccupation of all Egyptians.<\/p>\n
He added that “change is a necessity for Egypt, and Farid Zahran’s presence as a representative of the opposition is an opportunity to rally around him and help him to express them”.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that the people always have doubts when it comes to presidential elections, and that what is happening in Gaza has made people turn away from talk, but we have an opportunity for change. Sadat continued: “Change is a must and it is coming, whatever its form, but we must reach people, talk to them, listen to them and urge them to take part politically, regardless of their choice, because we completely reject boycott campaigns or withdrawal from the race.”<\/p>\n
Political activist Esraa Abdel Fattah also took part in the conference, saying: “I would have liked to take part in the election campaign of presidential candidate Farid Zahran in more suitable circumstances than these.” She added: “The circumstances surrounding us make me say that the absence of politics is the main cause of all the conflicts currently existing in the region, from which we all suffer.”<\/p>\n
She added during her speech at the press conference of presidential candidate Farid Zahran’s election campaign that the alternative to the absence of politics was the presence of weapons and conflicts, whether internal or external, noting that the absence of politics in Egypt has led to talk of 2,500 State Security cases of activists and ordinary citizens who are in detention because of their opinions.<\/p>\n
The election campaign of presidential candidate Farid Zahran, head of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, had announced the official formation of the campaign: Engineer Bassem Kamel, former MP and secretary-general of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, was chosen as campaign director, Abdel Aziz El-Shennawy as deputy campaign director, and MP Ameera Saber and Dr Moataz El-Shennawy as the campaign’s official spokespeople.<\/p>\n
In a related context, the campaign announced its conference plan for November, which included three conferences: in Assiut on 10 and 11 November, in Fayoum on 18 November, in Edfu on 22 November, in Aswan on 23 November and in Sohag on 24 November.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that the National Election Authority set 16 and 17 October for announcing and publishing in the Official Gazette the preliminary list of candidates’ names and the numbers of recommenders or supporters for each of them.<\/p>\n
The authority set 3 days of voting for Egyptians abroad, on 1, 2 and 3 December, and set 10, 11 and 12 December for Egyptians at home. The preliminary result of the Egyptian presidential election is scheduled to be announced on 18 December.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
