A Recording of Israeli Women Held in Gaza Addressing a Message to Netanyahu<\/h3>\n

Hamas today, Monday, broadcast a video recording of Israeli women held in Gaza addressing a message to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. One of the captives in the recording said, addressing Netanyahu, that “there was no army on 7 October, and no one came for us, and you want to kill us all”, adding: “Release us now and release their citizens. We are in this situation because of your failure, and you are obliged to release us all.”<\/p>\n

The Occupation Claims Its Forces Have Advanced into Gaza… and the Government Media Office in the Strip Denies It<\/h3>\n

Military officials in the Israeli occupation authorities said today, Monday, that Israeli occupation forces are attacking the Gaza Strip by land and air, that infantry and armoured units have clashed with Hamas members inside the Strip, and that warplanes struck hundreds of targets<\/a> over the weekend.<\/p>\n

On the other side, the Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip categorically denied any ground incursion into residential neighbourhoods in the Gaza Strip, noting that what happened on Salah al-Din Street was an incursion by a few occupation army tanks and a bulldozer from the open agricultural area in the Juhr al-Dik area, according to Palestinian media.<\/p>\n

It added: “These vehicles targeted two civilian cars on Salah al-Din Street and bulldozed the street before the resistance forced them to retreat.” It continued: “It is clear that he is trying to paint an untrue picture of his soldiers’ presence in areas inside the Strip.”<\/p>\n

The Occupation Targets the Health Sector in Gaza<\/h3>\n

The World Health Organization said<\/a> yesterday, Sunday, that Israel has continued to warn hospitals in northern Gaza that they must evacuate, and that it continues its heavy bombardment of Gaza. It added that many health facilities have been damaged, that hospitals are overcrowded with seriously injured patients and that no end to the flow of casualties is in sight. Medical supplies are also dangerously low. The fuel cut-off is already affecting the operation of health facilities and ambulances. Hospitals in the north are still receiving evacuation orders. The World Health Organization stressed that evacuating hospitals is impossible without endangering patients’ lives. The organisation also called for the effective protection of civilians and health care, the rescinding of evacuation orders and sustained humanitarian access to Gaza; under international humanitarian law, health care must always be protected.<\/p>\n

Palestinian health officials say more than 8,000 people have been killed in Gaza, many of them children, since Israel began launching retaliatory air strikes in response to the Hamas attack of 7 October, which killed about 1,400 people in Israel.<\/p>\n

The Palestine Red Crescent Society said that Israeli air strikes damaged parts of Al-Quds Hospital<\/a> in Gaza City, while Palestinian media reported<\/a> that the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital in Gaza was also damaged after Israeli bombardment.<\/p>\n

47 Aid Trucks Arrive in Gaza and 60 Are Prepared<\/h3>\n

47 trucks loaded with food, water, medical supplies and other humanitarian aid entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing with Egypt on Sunday, according to a Palestinian official at the crossing. This was the largest single-day total in the nine days since shipments began, but it remains a small fraction of what the United Nations says civilians in Gaza need.<\/p>\n

Al-Qahera News reported that 60 trucks of humanitarian aid have been prepared ahead of their entry into the Palestinian territories through the Rafah land crossing.<\/p>\n

The World Bank Warns of Rising Oil Prices<\/h3>\n

As a result of the war, the World Bank warned today, Monday, that any major escalation of the war could raise oil prices by up to 75%.<\/p>\n

The World Bank’s new study indicates that such a crisis could overlap with the energy market disruptions already caused by Russia’s war in Ukraine, worsening the economic consequences.<\/p>\n

Indermit Gill, the World Bank’s chief economist and senior vice president for development economics, said in a statement: “The latest conflict in the Middle East comes on the heels of the biggest shock to commodity markets since the 1970s: Russia’s war with Ukraine.”<\/p>\n

The report said: “If the conflict escalates, the global economy would face a dual energy shock for the first time in decades, not just from the war in Ukraine but also from the Middle East.”<\/p>\n

The World Bank expects average global oil prices, currently $85 a barrel, to rise to $90 a barrel this quarter. The organisation had expected them to fall next year, but disruptions to oil supplies could radically change these expectations.<\/p>\n

The bank’s most dangerous scenario is linked to the Arab oil embargo imposed in 1973 during the Arab-Israeli war. A disruption of this severity could remove up to eight million barrels of oil a day from the market and raise prices to $157 a barrel.<\/p>\n

A less dangerous, but still devastating, outcome would be for the war to resemble the 2003 war in Iraq, with oil supplies falling by five million barrels a day and prices rising by up to 35%, to $121 a barrel.<\/p>\n

The most modest outcome would be for the conflict to parallel the 2011 civil war in Libya, with the loss of two million barrels of oil a day from global markets and prices rising by up to 13%, to $102 a barrel.<\/p>\n

World Bank officials warned that the effects on inflation and the global economy will depend on the duration of the conflict and how long oil prices remain high. They said that if high oil prices persist, this will lead to higher prices for food, industrial metals and gold.<\/p>\n

The United States and Europe have been trying to prevent global oil prices from rising following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Western countries imposed a price cap on Russian energy exports, a step aimed at limiting Moscow’s oil revenues while ensuring that oil supplies continue to flow.<\/p>\n

The Biden administration has also tapped its Strategic Petroleum Reserve to ease oil price pressures.<\/p>\n

Israeli Air Strikes on the West Bank<\/h3>\n

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said that the Israeli army carried out a raid<\/a> in the city of Jenin in the West Bank overnight, killing at least four Palestinians. The Israeli army said its soldiers engaged in a gun battle with Palestinian gunmen in a refugee camp, and that an Israeli drone struck the site from the air. UN figures indicate that at least 115 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the Israeli-occupied West Bank since 7 October.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
