Taba<\/a> on the Red Sea in Egypt after a rocket fell on the city, which shares a border with the Israeli occupation state, early on Friday. The rocket hit the ambulance building in the city of Taba and a residential area belonging to the administration of Taba hospital, and the Egyptian authorities say that security forces arrived at the scene and began investigating. The city of Taba is about 220 kilometres from Gaza. Al-Qahera News quoted informed sources as saying that the incident is being seriously investigated to uncover the circumstances of what happened, and that security forces arrived at the scene and began preliminary investigations into the incident. The Israeli occupation’s television correspondent said that investigations are under way into whether the rocket was fired towards Eilat but fell by mistake on Egyptian Taba. A sovereign source told Al-Qahera that once the party that launched the rocket is identified, all options are available to deal with it, and that Egypt reserves the right to respond at the appropriate time. The Israeli army said in a statement: “We are aware of the security incident that took place in the city of Taba in Egypt at around two o’clock this morning, and since the incident took place on Egyptian territory, we have no further details. We can confirm that there were no Israeli casualties.”<\/p>\nThis incident is the second of its kind since the start of the Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip, which borders Egypt. On 22 October, the Israeli occupation army announced that it had shelled an Egyptian position near the border posts in the Kerem Shalom area “by mistake”, injuring 9 Egyptians in the explosion of a tower belonging to the Border Guard forces south of the Egyptian city of Rafah, on the border line separating Egypt and the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n
The Israeli occupation army said in a brief statement: “An IDF tank fired a short while ago by mistake and hit an Egyptian position near the border in the Kerem Shalom area.” It added: “The incident is under investigation and its details are being examined,” and the occupation army expressed “regret” over the incident in the statement.<\/p>\n
The Kerem Shalom “kibbutz” area, belonging to the Ashkelon Regional Council, lies on the border between Gaza, Israel and Egypt, and there is a border crossing joining the three areas (the Kerem Shalom crossing).<\/p>\n
For his part, the Egyptian military spokesperson said that “during the ongoing clashes in the Gaza Strip, one of the Egyptian border observation towers was hit by mistake by shrapnel from an Israeli tank shell”.<\/p>\n
He added that the shelling resulted in “minor injuries to some border observation personnel”, and continued: “The Israeli side expressed its regret for the unintentional incident immediately after it occurred, and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated.”<\/p>\n
