Al-Dostour (Constitution) Party, at its general assembly yesterday, Tuesday, rejected the participation of party head Gameela Ismail in the upcoming 2023-2024 presidential election. The rejection came with a vote of 305 against and 133 in favour of participation, out of 757 active members with updated data, which runs contrary to her personal position, given her desire to run for the presidency as the first Egyptian woman to contest the presidential election.

Zawia3 learned from its sources that Gameela Ismail stressed during Al-Dostour Party’s general assembly that her resort to parliamentary endorsement was due to the difficulty of obtaining popular endorsements because of restrictions, as she obtained only about 37 endorsements in Cairo to support her in the presidential election.

So far, the National Election Authority has received the papers of 3 presidential candidates for the 2024 presidential election since nominations opened: Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the current president; Farid Zahran, head of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party; and candidate Abdel-Sanad Yamama, head of the Wafd Party, who met the legal requirements for candidacy and whose nomination applications were accepted.

It is worth noting that the National Election Authority set 16 and 17 October for announcing and publishing in the Official Gazette the preliminary list of candidates’ names and the numbers of endorsers or supporters of each of them.

The Authority set 3 days for voting by Egyptians abroad, on 1, 2 and 3 December, and set 10, 11 and 12 December for Egyptians at home.

The preliminary result of the Egyptian presidential election is scheduled to be announced on 18 December.
