The hearing is scheduled to continue the examination of the first witness in Case No. 7304 of 2026, Bulaq El-Dakrour Felonies.

On 22 September, the court adjourned the case until today to continue examining witnesses, hear defence witnesses and ask the traffic department whether the gathering had disrupted traffic. Lawyer Osama El-Gohary, a member of Moshagheb’s defence team, said that seeking information about traffic conditions during the celebration was among the reasons for the adjournment.

Prosecutors accuse Moshagheb of organising and participating in an assembly of more than five people with the aim of obstructing the implementation of laws and preventing public authorities from carrying out their duties. The other five defendants are accused of participating in the same assembly. All six also face charges of possessing explosive materials and fireworks without a licence, according to the referral order.

Alongside El-Sayed Ali Fahim Abu El-Maaty, known as Sayed Moshagheb, the case includes Amir Karam Abdel Aziz, Mohamed Essam Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Mostafa Mahmoud Mohamed Abdel Mohsen, Mostafa Saber Abdel Fattah Mohamed and Khaled Mahmoud Saad Abdel Hafiz. It is also registered as Case No. 3562 of 2026, South Giza General Register, and No. 4375 of 2026, Supreme State Security Register.

At the hearing on 21 July, the defendants denied the charges after prosecutors read out the referral order. The defence requested testimony from the first and fourth prosecution witnesses, the inclusion of seized exhibits and the screening of video footage, as well as emergency call logs and Bulaq El-Dakrour police station records for 15 and 16 April. It also requested the record of Moshagheb’s signature on an undertaking to comply with mandatory police supervision in an earlier case, permission to submit additional videos and permission for his immediate neighbours to attend and testify.

The case stems from the celebration of Moshagheb’s return to his family following his release. On 17 April, the Interior Ministry announced that it had arrested him and five others, saying it had identified videos of the gathering. According to the statement, security authorities received a complaint from residents on 16 April accusing participants of setting off fireworks, obstructing traffic and terrorising residents. On the same day, the Bulaq El-Dakrour prosecution ordered all six detained for four days pending investigation.

By contrast, the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights said security forces rearrested Moshagheb at his home hours after his release, along with five people who had come to congratulate him. Citing the defence team, it said the other five did not appear in the videos on which the arrests were based.

Moshagheb’s release followed approximately eleven years in detention, including a prison sentence and subsequent pretrial detention. On 24 September 2017, the North Cairo Criminal Court sentenced him to seven years in prison in the Air Defence Stadium case.

After completing his sentence, he remained detained in Case No. 910 of 2021, Supreme State Security Register, on charges of joining an unlawful group and spreading false news. A joint statement published by the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies in February 2024 documented his appearance for questioning on 2 January 2024, among cases that the organisations described as the “recycling” of prisoners into new cases after they had completed their sentences.

On 6 April 2026, the Supreme State Security Prosecution ordered his release, as part of decisions covering other detainees.
