Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, that the government aims to raise the minimum wage for state employees from 8,000 pounds ($165.63) to 15,000 pounds ($310.56) per month by fiscal year 2029\/2030, at the closing session of the “Egypt Forum 2026” in the New Administrative Capital, as part of the forum’s recommendations and outcomes. About 4.5 million employees in the state’s administrative apparatus are expected to benefit from the increase<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The recommendations<\/a> included a gradual plan of financial incentives for teachers aiming for their minimum income to reach 15,000 pounds within two years, the launch of a professional license to practice teaching with financial privileges for its holders, and an increase in the average performance pay for medical sector workers of no less than 50% by the end of fiscal year 2029\/2030. Madbouly acknowledged in his speech that Egyptians had borne substantial economic and living pressures in recent years.<\/p>\n

The minimum wage had risen<\/a> to 8,000 pounds as of July 2026, an increase of 1,000 pounds ($20.70) approved by the government in the 2026\/2027 budget. The National Council for Wages had raised the minimum wage for private sector workers to 7,000 pounds ($144.93) as of March 2025.<\/p>\n
