{"id":24277,"date":"2026-10-25T12:01:40","date_gmt":"2026-10-25T10:01:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zawia3.com\/?p=24277"},"modified":"2026-10-25T12:01:40","modified_gmt":"2026-10-25T10:01:40","slug":"coded-meters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zawia3.com\/en\/coded-meters\/","title":{"rendered":"Government gives coded meter owners a 6-month grace period to reconcile and a 30% cut for applicants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced on Saturday, October 24, 2026, that users of coded meters installed before 2024 who have not applied for reconciliation of building violations would be given a six-month grace period to regularize their status, with those who apply during this period granted a 30% reduction according to the set rules. The announcement came among the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alborsaanews.com\/2026\/10\/24\/2001550\">recommendations<\/a> of &#8220;Egypt Forum 2026,&#8221; which Madbouly presented at the forum&#8217;s closing session in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.<\/p>\n<p>Coded meters are billed at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elbalad.news\/7154036\">uniform rate<\/a> since April 2026 of EGP 2.74 (5.7 cents) per kilowatt hour, outside the tiered system applied to household meters, and if the reduction is applied to this rate, it becomes about EGP 1.92 (4 cents). The government has not yet announced when the grace period will begin, and electricity distribution companies are awaiting the completion of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elbalad.news\/7154468\">executive procedures<\/a> and the mechanisms for applying the reduction.<\/p>\n<p>Among the same recommendations, the government announced that building violation reconciliation procedures would not exceed 12 months from the approval of the law&#8217;s amendment, taking into account price differences between areas, separating housing for low-income groups from commercial and investment uses, expanding installment plans, offering incentives for early payment, and simplifying the required documents.<\/p>\n<p>Coded meters carry a code number that identifies the housing unit, and are installed for units in buildings that violate regulations or are unlicensed so they can be billed for actual consumption.
