{"id":25010,"date":"2026-10-28T19:31:40","date_gmt":"2026-10-28T17:31:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zawia3.com\/?p=25010"},"modified":"2026-10-28T19:31:40","modified_gmt":"2026-10-28T17:31:40","slug":"alternative-housing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zawia3.com\/en\/alternative-housing\/","title":{"rendered":"Government extends alternative housing applications for old rent tenants until January 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Council of Ministers, at its weekly meeting chaired by Mostafa Madbouly on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, decided to extend the period for citizens covered by the provisions of the old rent law, Law No. 164 of 2025, to apply for alternative units by three additional months, until January 12, 2027, after the current period had been set to end on October 12, 2026, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youm7.com\/story\/2026\/10\/28\/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%88%D8%B2%D8%B1%D8%A7%D8%A1-%D9%85%D8%AF-%D9%81%D8%AA%D8%B1%D8%A9-%D8%AA%D9%82%D8%AF%D9%8A%D9%85-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D9%88%D8%A7%D8%B7%D9%86%D9%8A%D9%86-%D9%84%D9%84%D8%AD%D8%B5%D9%88%D9%84-%D8%B9%D9%84%D9%89-%D9%88%D8%AD%D8%AF%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D8%A8%D8%AF%D9%8A%D9%84%D8%A9-3\/7597222\">decision<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Housing Ministry report presented to the council, about 96,500 citizens have so far applied with about 106,600 forms, with Cairo ranking first in the number of applicants and forms, followed by Giza. The Social Housing and Mortgage Finance Fund has provided up to 15,000 housing units in new cities and governorates for the rental program scheduled to be offered in the middle of next month, and is continuing to survey units available with the Urban Development Fund, the New Urban Communities Authority and the Ministry of Local Development.<\/p>\n<p>The allocation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elbalad.news\/7159393\">plan<\/a> provides for determining the total number of eligible applicants and distributing them by governorate and type of use, announcing the results after the cabinet&#8217;s approval and informing applicants of their final status by text message, with 5% of available units allocated to people with disabilities, and taking into account the area classification (prime, middle or economic) set by the survey committees formed under the law. The report did not specify the final number of eligible applicants or the rent of the alternative units.<\/p>\n<p>Law No. 164 of 2025 was published in the Official Gazette on Monday, August 4, 2025, and set a <a href=\"https:\/\/amwalalghad.com\/2025\/08\/04\/\u062a\u0641\u0627\u0635\u064a\u0644-\u0642\u0627\u0646\u0648\u0646-\u0627\u0644\u0625\u064a\u062c\u0627\u0631-\u0627\u0644\u0642\u062f\u064a\u0645-\u0627\u0644\u062c\u062f\u064a\u062f-2025-\u0628\/\">transitional period<\/a> after which old rent contracts end, lasting seven years for residential units and five years for non-residential units rented to natural persons.
