The Dutch Public Prosecution Service announced on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the arrest of a 34-year-old Egyptian man on suspicion of “providing services for the benefit of a foreign power,” after an investigation it says revealed his involvement in intimidating and threatening participants in gatherings and demonstrations in 2025 and 2026, including gatherings in front of his country’s embassy. The man is scheduled to appear before the investigating judge on Friday, October 30.<\/p>\n
The prosecution said in its statement<\/a> that the National Investigation and Interventions Unit is conducting the investigation under the leadership of the National Prosecutor’s Office, and that the man was arrested in the new case on Tuesday, October 27, while already in detention in another case, after Amsterdam police caught him in the act on Sunday, October 11, on suspicion of premeditated assault and robbery with violence, and the council chamber of the Amsterdam court ordered on Monday, October 26, that he be held for 30 days in that case. The man is under full restrictions and is only allowed contact with his lawyer.<\/p>\n The prosecution named neither the detainee nor the foreign power, but the details of the case match the case<\/a> of Egyptian citizen Ahmed Nasser, whom Egyptian media present as deputy head of the Union of Egyptian Youth Abroad, and who, according to Dutch media reports, was detained in October on suspicion of threatening Egyptian Anas Habib, who padlocked the gates of the Egyptian embassy in The Hague during a protest over restrictions at the Rafah crossing.<\/p>\n Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty had called<\/a> his Dutch counterpart on October 12, asking for clarification of the reasons for Nasser’s arrest, his release, and protection of the Egyptian embassy in The Hague.
