{"id":25517,"date":"2026-11-01T09:59:21","date_gmt":"2026-11-01T07:59:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zawia3.com\/?p=25517"},"modified":"2026-11-01T09:59:21","modified_gmt":"2026-11-01T07:59:21","slug":"rights-strategy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zawia3.com\/en\/rights-strategy\/","title":{"rendered":"Rights organizations call for protecting participants in drafting the second National Human Rights Strategy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Committee for Justice, the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms and the Danish Institute Against Torture (DIGNITY) called on the Egyptian authorities, in a joint <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ec-rf.net\/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%B4%D8%A7%D8%B1%D9%83%D8%A9-%D8%AA%D8%AD%D8%AA-%D9%88%D8%B7%D8%A3%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AE%D9%88%D9%81-%D9%84%D9%8A%D8%B3%D8%AA-%D9%85%D8%B4%D8%A7%D8%B1%D9%83%D8%A9-%D8%AD%D9%82\/\">statement<\/a> on Friday, October 30, 2026, to guarantee a safe environment for civil society organizations invited to participate in drafting the second National Human Rights Strategy, and said that &#8220;participation under the weight of fear is not real participation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The statement came after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Supreme Committee for Human Rights invited civil society organizations to participate in consultations on drafting the strategy. The three organizations welcomed these steps, but said they are not enough unless a safe environment for participation is available, and warned that prosecutions, detention and reprisals may push journalists and human rights defenders to soften their assessments. They added that real participation means contributing to setting priorities, not merely commenting on priorities set in advance, and that the environment in which the strategy is drafted &#8220;is not a matter separate from its content.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The organizations called for protecting all individuals and organizations taking part from any form of reprisal, dealing transparently with the views and proposals submitted, clarifying the mechanisms for evaluating civil society proposals and the extent to which they are reflected in the final version of the strategy, and creating an environment that allows journalists, defenders and researchers to express their views freely and safely.<\/p>\n<p>The statement cited the arrest of the six journalists of the fact-checking platform &#8220;Matsda2sh&#8221; on September 28 and 29, 2026, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/manassa.news\/news\/34650\">ruling<\/a> against Lina Attalah, editor-in-chief of &#8220;Mada Masr,&#8221; on October 27 with a fine of 3 million pounds (about $53,500) and the closure of the website and confiscation of its equipment.
