Mahfouz Ramzy, head of the drug manufacturing committee at the Pharmacists Syndicate, said on the evening of Saturday 31 October 2026 that there are no signs of medicine prices being raised in Egypt until the end of the current year, in remarks<\/a> to the programme “Hadith Al-Qahera” on Al-Qahera Wal Nas channel.<\/p>\n

Ramzy said that a rise in the dollar of more than 15%, holding at its new levels for a set period, could prompt a review of medicine prices, and that prices do not change automatically with every change in the exchange rate or with temporary market fluctuations, but are linked to large and stable changes.<\/p>\n

He explained that the Egyptian Drug Authority reviews prices every six months under a formula in which the exchange rate accounts for 60%, the inflation rate for 30% and the bank interest rate for 10%, and that changing a price requires the formula’s result to exceed 10%, along with an actual rise in production costs, according to rules<\/a> set by the authority.<\/p>\n

The remarks came days after the Central Bank of Egypt decided, on Thursday 29 October, to raise interest rates<\/a> by 1%, the first increase since March 2024. The interest rate is one of the components of the medicine pricing formula.<\/p>\n
