The Ministry of Health and Population denied on Tuesday 3 November 2026 the spread of a mysterious virus in the villages of Esna district in Luxor Governorate, saying in a statement published by the Cabinet Media Center that the recorded cases have a seasonal viral infection that recurs at this time every year.

The ministry said the infection is not transmitted through drinking water, food or contact, that its symptoms are high fever and body aches, and that most cases are mild and recover at home with rest and fluids, with no case requiring hospital admission. It added that it had intensified campaigns against insect vectors and rodents in coordination with preventive medicine.

Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said in a phone-in to a television program that the virus is “seasonal and known” and is transmitted by insects that breed near stagnant water, that the number of infected people is not large, denied any epidemic spread, and said the virus would recede as temperatures drop, and urged citizens to clean places where open water collects and get rid of stagnant water in containers. The ministry did not announce the number of recorded cases or the name of the virus, and the spokesman said the ministry has been following the situation in daily coordination with the governorate’s health directorate since receiving citizens’ complaints.
