The freedoms committee of the Journalists Syndicate invited, on Thursday, November 5, 2026, websites that have applied for licenses to a meeting<\/a> at the syndicate’s headquarters on Saturday, November 7, to discuss the obstacles facing issuance and licensing procedures and complaints by some websites that they have been blocked. Syndicate head Khaled El Balshy, freedoms committee head Eman Ouf and members of the syndicate council will take part in the meeting.<\/p>\n

The committee said the meeting implements a decision taken by the syndicate council at its last meeting and aims to apply “transparent and fair rules to everyone” and to ease procedures for websites to regularize their status.<\/p>\n

The invitation came after a meeting<\/a> in which the head of the National Council for Human Rights, Ahmed Ehab Gamal El Din, and his deputy, Mohamed Anwar El Sadat, received a syndicate delegation that included El Balshy and council members Mohamed Saad Abdel Hafiz and Eman Ouf, and which addressed the situation of websites seeking to regularize their status. El Balshy said the syndicate demanded<\/a> during the meeting fair and transparent procedures for handling license applications, that websites be notified of any documents that need to be completed, and that syndicate council members be allowed to visit detained journalists, noting that previous visit requests received no response.<\/p>\n

The move follows a ruling by the New Cairo Misdemeanor Court, on October 27, fining Mada Masr editor in chief Lina Attalah EGP 3 million (55,500 dollars) and closing the website on charges of operating without a license, although it has applied for a license since 2018, with the appeal scheduled for November 25. The pretrial detention<\/a> of six journalists from the Matsda2sh platform continues in Case No. 8083 of 2026 Supreme State Security, since their arrest in late September.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
