The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics announced on Thursday, November 5, 2026, that the nationwide annual inflation rate fell to 12% last October, from 12.8% in September, its lowest level since last February, when it recorded 11.5%. The rate measures the change in the consumer price index, which the agency issues monthly for a basket of goods and services, compared with the same month of the previous year.

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom presented the figures at the Cabinet meeting on the same day, and they showed monthly price growth slowing to 0.6% in October, from 1.5% in September.

A 2.9% fall in fruit prices and a 2.6% fall in vegetable prices helped lower the rate, while prices of meat and poultry rose 3.2%, and of dairy, cheese and eggs 2.5%, according to the statistics agency’s statement. Annual inflation had risen in September to 12.8%, from 12.7% in August.

A decline in annual inflation does not mean prices fell, but that they rose more slowly compared with the same period of the previous year. The announcement coincided with the government’s approval of a plan to rationalize public spending that it linked to developments in the Middle East, while the official dollar selling rate at the Central Bank of Egypt stood at EGP 54.01 on Thursday.

Photo: Frank Schulenburg via Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 3.0)

Annual inflation fell to 12% in October from 12.8% in September, and monthly price growth slowed to 0.6%, while meat and poultry prices rose 3.2%.

[20481
21785,8827,21787,811,21786
710
post-26212","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-in-brief","tag-ahmed-rostom","tag-capmas","tag-egypt-inflation-october-2026","tag-inflation","tag-meat-prices","kateb-zawia3-com
["GET
