Dr. Hashem El-Sayed, Assistant to the Prime Minister and Chief Executive of the State-Owned Companies Unit, said on Friday evening, 6 November 2026, that the government decided to move four holding companies to the Sovereign Fund of Egypt: the holding companies for Spinning and Weaving, for Pharmaceuticals, for Tourism, and for Construction. He made the remarks in an interview with presenter Lamis El-Hadidy on the programme Al-Soura on Al-Nahar TV.<\/p>\n
El-Sayed explained that the transfer<\/a> came after a study and coordination with the fund that lasted six months, and that the six holding companies formerly under the abolished Ministry of Public Business Sector are being restructured and “will not be sold”. He added that the fate of the two remaining companies, the Metallurgical Industries Holding Company and the Chemical Industries Holding Company, is still under study, between moving them to the sovereign fund or to the Future of Egypt agency.<\/p>\n On the offerings programme, El-Sayed said the government targets<\/a> raising $1.5 billion before the end of December, of which about $658 million has been collected so far, and plans to sell a 20% stake in Misr Life Insurance with expected proceeds of nearly $250 million, alongside completing the targeted proceeds through offering a stake in Egypt Aluminum. He added that the government aims to offer 15 to 16 companies by the end of 2027, and that pharmaceuticals is a strategic sector<\/a> in which state ownership will not fall below 51%.<\/p>\n The Ministry of Public Business Sector was abolished in a cabinet reshuffle in February 2026; it oversaw six holding companies with 67 subsidiaries.
