Egypt: “Tantawi” Gathers 7741 Endorsements, “Zahran” Officially Submits Nomination

🗞️Potential presidential candidate Ahmed Tantawi stated that his campaign has managed to collect only 7741 endorsements, while he aims to gather 30,000 endorsements amid the constraints imposed on him and his supporters. He called on his supporters to continue heading to the real estate registration offices to issue the endorsements. He added, “There is no longer any justification for the presence of supporters of the rival candidate (Abdel Fattah al-Sisi) in front of the real estate registration offices,” after al-Sisi submitted his candidacy papers, becoming the first candidate in the upcoming presidential elections.

Tantawi revealed details of the “different paths” he will take in the coming days, including calling on supporters to go to the real estate registration offices and urge them to follow the instructions of the National Electoral Commission to liberate citizens’ endorsements. He clarified that among the paths is “collecting his campaign’s endorsements personally from citizens by signing on a similar model to the one at the real estate registration office.” Finally, he will hold an international press conference if he is unable to issue the endorsements and is excluded from the electoral process.

🗞️Security forces in Cairo intensified their presence today, Sunday, around the headquarters of the National Electoral Commission on Qasr al-Aini Street, coinciding with the opening of the application process for candidates. The security forces deployed their units at the entrances and exits of the commission.

🗞️”Zawia3″ had published a report showing that a number of individuals are distributing banners and pictures of the three potential presidential candidates (Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Hazem Omar, Abd el-Sand Yamama). According to witnesses, “these gathered citizens are instructed to raise Egyptian flags and pictures of the three candidates, to demonstrate a glimpse of pluralism and free choice of several candidates, not just the current president.”

The System Is Down in Dokki

🗞️In a tour of  Zawia3 today in front of the real estate registration office in Dokki, Giza,  it seems that no citizens have been able to issue a single endorsement since the morning, as “the system is down, and the internet is malfunctioning,” according to one of the workers at the real estate registration office. One citizen stated that he felt despair from attempting to issue an endorsement several times in over 6 real estate registration offices, but it seems that “there’s no hope,” according to him, confirming that he has been trying to issue an endorsement for about a week but as you can see, “the system is down, or the building is closed, basically.”

One of Tantawi’s Campaign Members’ Detention Renewed

🗞️The Foundation for Freedom of Thought and Expression stated that Adel Salim, one of Tantawi’s campaign members, has been detained for 15 days. He was arrested from his home last month following his signing up to join the potential presidential candidate’s campaign. The prosecution charged him with joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its purposes, spreading and broadcasting false news and statements to harm public security and order, and using a social media account to spread false news.

“Zahran” Officially Submits Nomination with 30 Parliamentary Recommendations

🗞️Potential presidential candidate Farid Zahran collected “30 parliamentary recommendations,” according to Mona El Shammakh, the Secretary of Media for the Egyptian Democratic Party led by Zahran. Shammakh stated to a third-party angle that Zahran officially submitted his nomination papers today, Sunday, for the 2024 presidential elections to the National Electoral Commission.

The potential presidential candidate confirmed that he completed the medical examination procedures at the New Administrative Capital Hospital, indicating that he did not face any difficulty in completing the preparation steps to submit his papers to the National Electoral Commission and run for the upcoming presidential elections.

Zahran had a minor traffic accident after submitting his nomination papers, according to sources within the candidates’ campaigns. The accident resulted in the driver suffering minor scratches, while the campaign confirmed that Zahran was unharmed.
