The Committee for Justice had documented on January 13, 2026, the continued pretrial detention of 37 Al Ahly fans in 12 cases before the Supreme State Security Prosecution, arrested at different times and places, with no announced charges of committing violent acts. The organization said businessman Yassin Mansour publicly promised on October 20, 2025, to intervene to end their ordeal, and that the club’s management backed this, but the promises did not translate into practical steps.

Also in January 2026, the Egyptian Network for Human Rights called on the Public Prosecutor to release Al Ahly fans detained in cases related to cheering, saying that the long detention of young people who committed no violent acts violates the principle of equality, after defendants in similar cases were released.
