The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources began, on Sunday, November 1, 2026, a one-month trial operation in Port Said Governorate of an electronic system that reads data on fueling vehicles with gasoline and diesel from the electronic sticker issued by the traffic units of the Ministry of Interior, according to a statement by the ministry.

The ministry said that the system collects this data to monitor fuel distribution and detect abnormal consumption patterns, and denied that it is linked to determining the quantities dispensed to citizens, changing fuel dispensing mechanisms or pricing petroleum products. It added that the trial period aims to “give owners of cars who have not previously installed the electronic sticker the opportunity to regularize their status,” and the statement did not clarify what will happen to cars that do not carry the sticker after this period ends.

The automatic pricing committee for petroleum products had decided in October to fix fuel prices until the end of December 2026.
