Banque du Caire shares began trading on the Egyptian Exchange on Monday, 2 November 2026, in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Central Bank Governor Hassan Abdalla, after 45% of the bank’s shares were offered, about 6.86 billion shares out of 15.25 billion shares, raising EGP 36.37 billion (. The bank’s market capitalisation stands at about EGP 80.82 billion.
Omar Radwan, chairman of the Egyptian Exchange, said purchase orders in the public offering exceeded 9.28 billion shares, 27 times the size of the public tranche. The Cabinet Media Center announced that more than $500 million was transferred from abroad to subscribe to the offering, and international institutions took part in the private placement, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Finance Corporation.
Madbouly said the offering is in line with the State Ownership Policy Document, which aims to expand private sector participation and the ownership base. Hashem El-Sayed, assistant to the prime minister, said the next step in the offerings programme is the offering of Misr Life Insurance, targeted before mid-December, with coordination under way with the Sovereign Fund of Egypt to set a fair value for its shares.
Banque du Caire is owned by state-owned Banque Misr, and its offering is part of the government’s programme to sell stakes in state-owned companies and assets, and the Cabinet’s Central Unit for Monitoring and Regulating State-Owned Companies led the offering.
