Minister of State for Information Diaa Rashwan met, on Sunday, November 1, 2026, about 70 content creators and social media influencers with more than 500 million followers, in a meeting that lasted more than four hours, and said the state is working to issue a freedom of information law for all citizens.

Responding to a proposal by participants to create a syndicate for content creators, Rashwan said no country in the world has established a syndicate for influencers, and that creating an umbrella body or association to organize relations among them is their own matter within the framework of the constitution and the law. He announced that the ministry is preparing the first forum for Egyptian content creators and influencers early next year. The meeting is the eighth in a series Rashwan has held, with about 250 media leaders taking part in the previous seven.

More than 40 participants spoke, raising difficulties related to obtaining filming permits in public places and streets, protecting intellectual property on international platforms, obtaining identification cards to ease their work, and professional training.

The meeting comes days after the Cabinet reviewed, on October 28, a report that recommended amending the Penal Code to raise fines for spreading rumors and false news, preparing a digital safety law, and tightening technical monitoring of platforms. Law No. 180 of 2018 subjects personal accounts followed by 5,000 people or more to its provisions, and allows the Supreme Council for Media Regulation to suspend or block them.
