Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel Latif announced on Monday, October 26, 2026, that the ministry aims to build 800 schools to eliminate evening shifts in primary education during the next year, at a joint press conference with the Minister of Finance to announce the details of the presidential directives issued by the “Egypt Forum 2026.”
The minister said the new schools will be set up next to the schools operating evening shifts, that construction rates previously reached about 1,000 schools a year, and that “there will be no random construction” in the next phase. He added that the plan extends to the preparatory stage by the 2028 academic year and then the secondary stage by 2029, with between 10,000 and 15,000 classrooms built annually, after which the focus will shift after 2029 to raising the efficiency of all schools, according to his statements.
On technical education, the two ministers said the plan aims to reach about 600 schools by 2030, and that 225 applied technology schools have started operating in partnership with the private sector and international partners in Italy and Germany, and they pointed to the start of 100 Egyptian-Italian schools and 38 Egyptian-German schools, without clarifying whether these are part of that number.
