Annual urban headline inflation slowed to 13.9% in September 2026, compared with 14.5% in August, according to the Central Bank of Egypt’s analysis of inflation developments, which attributed the decline mainly to the drop in non-food goods inflation to 18%, its lowest level since January 2023, and to the base-year effect. But monthly inflation rose to 1.3% after recording 0.1% in August, and annual food inflation rose to 7.2% from 6.3%, with fresh vegetable prices increasing 17.8% within a single month.

The Central Bank linked the increase in services prices to the amendments to the old rent law and higher outpatient clinic prices, while annual inflation in rural areas rose to 11.6% compared with 10.9% in August.
