The Official Gazette published Presidential Decree No. 379 of 2026 by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, allocating an area of about 763,248 feddans, equivalent to about 3.2 billion square metres, in the western North Coast area of Matrouh Governorate to the New and Renewable Energy Development and Use Authority, to be used for renewable energy projects, as reported by Egyptian news websites on Tuesday, 20 October 2026.

The decree stipulates that the authority will use the land for renewable energy projects in accordance with the applicable rules and laws, and defines the area with a map and a table of coordinates attached to it. Article Two stipulates that the authority may not conclude any contract to exploit the land allocated to it, including this area, without the written approval of the President of the Republic.

The decree set the allocated area precisely at 763,247.82 feddans, or 3,206,276,627 square metres, about 3,206 square kilometres, according to what the news websites reported from the text of the published decree. The government has not yet announced the nature of the projects planned on the land, the companies nominated to implement them, or the decree’s impact on any existing uses of land in the area.
