Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly directed, on Sunday, October 25, 2026, work to increase the safe stock of food commodities and petroleum products, while chairing a meeting of the Central Crisis Management Committee at the government headquarters in the New Capital, to follow up on the repercussions of geopolitical tensions in the region on global markets.
Counselor Mohamed Adel, spokesperson for the Cabinet, said the meeting reviewed the levels of strategic stocks of basic commodities, petroleum products, medicines, medical supplies and fertilizers, and described them as “safe and reassuring,” adding that developments in the region contributed to renewed inflationary pressures and higher global prices of some food commodities and fuel. The meeting did not announce the size of the current stock or the period it covers. Madbouly also directed speeding up the application of incentives to increase exports, including updating the export subsidy program and increasing allocations for shipping to target markets.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Eissa, ministers including the ministers of finance, petroleum, supply, agriculture, health and electricity, the two deputy governors of the Central Bank, Rami Abul Naga and Tarek El-Kholy, the director of crisis management at the Armed Forces Operations Authority, Major General Islam Radwan, and Assistant Foreign Minister Ambassador Nazih El-Naggari.
The meeting comes a day before a session of the House of Representatives, on Monday, October 26, to decide on President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s request for authorization to send forces to support and defend Saudi Arabia, after the House postponed a decision in two secret sessions on Sunday, October 18, and Monday, October 19, and the decision is expected to be made by roll-call vote. The dollar was quoted on Sunday at 55.85 pounds for selling at the National Bank of Egypt, and Air Cairo extended the suspension of its flights to Riyadh from Cairo, Assiut and Sohag until Saturday, October 31, saying the decision was taken in coordination with the Saudi civil aviation authorities.
